On April 21st, Waterford Chamber Skillnet, County Wexford Chamber Skillnet, Carlow Kilkenny Skillnet and County Tipperary Chamber Skillnet joined forces to deliver a high-impact learning event focused on advancing sustainable business practices and leadership within the South East region.
‘The Business Case for Sustainability’ event was held at the Lyrath Hotel, Kilkenny, and brought together 120 business leaders, SMEs, executives, policymakers and sustainability practitioners to explore how organisations can embed sustainability into core decision-making to drive long-term profitability, resilience and competitive advantage.
Emphasising the importance of the event, Tommie Ryan, Network Manager, Waterford Chamber Skillnet, said: “This conference was designed to move beyond theory and provide practical, actionable insights for businesses at every stage of their sustainability journey. Sonya Lennon, a multi-award-winning entrepreneur, social innovator and equality advocate delivered a keynote address. Drawing on her experience as founder of Work Equal and co-founder of LIFT Ireland, Sonya shared her own powerful insights on responsible leadership, equity, and the role of business in shaping a more sustainable and inclusive future. Her address highlighted how purpose-driven leadership can unlock innovation, strengthen culture, and deliver lasting business impact.
The conference also featured an expert panel discussion and addresses from leading voices from across industry. The panel, which was moderated by Skillnet Ireland’s Aoife O’Sullivan, included Fergal Doyle, CEO of Arboretum Garden Centre Group; Anthony Dignam, Management Coach; Amanda Stewart, CEO of the High Performance Building Alliance; Chris Boland, Deputy General Manager at Faithlegg Hotel; Pat Kane, CEO of Reuzi.ie; and David Sinnott; CEO of Port of Waterford. The Panellists shared practical case studies and real-world experiences, offering insights into sustainable operations, governance, innovation, workforce development and the transition to a low-carbon economy.
