On Friday, September 19th , Taoiseach, Micheál Martin TD; Minister for Mental Health, Mary Butler TD and Minister of State for Planning, John Cummins TD, attended the official launch of Waterford Chamber Skillnet’s 2025 Regional Leaders Programme.

The Regional Leaders Programme, now firmly established as a cornerstone of leadership development in the South East, provides a structured platform for aspiring leaders to connect, gain practical insights, and develop the confidence to take on greater responsibilities.

Delivering a keynote address at the event, Taoiseach Micheál Martin spoke of the importance of collaboration and mentorship in shaping future leaders.

“The strength of Ireland’s future will be measured by the leaders we nurture today, leaders who understand that progress comes from collaboration, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to people. The Regional Leaders Programme provides a unique platform where talent is fostered, ideas are shared, and ambition is encouraged. Initiatives like this will ensure that the South East continues to thrive as a place of opportunity, resilience, and growth,” the Taoiseach said.

Mark Jordan, Chief Executive, Skillnet Ireland, said: "It is vital for companies operating in Ireland to have access to thoughtful, well-developed upskilling training to create a pipeline of skilled leaders that will pave the way for the Irish workforce. This programme, from Waterford Chamber Skillnet in collaboration with Waterford Chamber and Bausch+ Lomb, is a fantastic resource for SMEs and a testament to the power of enterprise-led partnership in meeting the needs of businesses in the South East."

Throughout the afternoon, attendees also heard from a range of business and political leaders, underlining the importance of developing strong, resilient, and innovative leadership within the South East region.

Waterford Chamber President Kevin Doolin said: “At its heart, the Regional Leaders Programme is about people. It is about harnessing the incredible talent, ambition, and vision that exists in our region and ensuring it is given every opportunity to flourish. To keep pace with the rapid changes in business, technology, and society, we need leaders who are adaptable, resilient, and innovative. That is exactly what this programme is designed to support.

"The Regional Leaders Programme is not just about individual growth; it is about ensuring our region has the leadership capacity to achieve its full potential. Today will leave you in no doubt that Waterford, and the South East, is a place of ambition. We are building a strong, vibrant, and sustainable future."

Aimed at leaders who wish to elevate their leadership competencies, the Regional Leaders Programme also benefits companies seeking to increase the leadership capacity of their internal talent pool. With a panel of business leaders from across a multitude of sectors, participants benefit from 1:1 mentoring, events including panel discussions, networking opportunities and inspiring guest speaker sessions.

The 2025 Regional Leaders Programme features over 50 participants matched with experienced leaders and coaches from across the country, who will work together over the next six months, shaping a bright future for the South East region.
