Skillnet Ireland has today announced the launch of Insurance Skillnet, a new business network developed in collaboration with industry leaders and representative bodies. Its objective is to support the development of a highly skilled, future-ready workforce across Ireland’s insurance sector, by providing access to targeted training and development programmes tailored to the evolving needs of the insurance industry.
The launch of Insurance Skillnet reflects a strategic commitment to strengthening workforce capability in a sector that employs over 43,000 people in Ireland and plays a critical role in supporting economic stability and growth.
Speaking at the launch, Minister for State at the Department of Finance, Robert Troy, said, “The importance of sustained investment in skills, education and professional development remains central to ensuring the strength, adaptability and global competitiveness of Ireland’s insurance sector. The establishment of a dedicated Insurance Skillnet is a very positive step forward for an industry that plays such an important role in our economy and society. Supporting innovation and skills development is a clear Government priority, reflected in the Action Plan for Insurance Reform, because a competitive insurance market must also be a resilient one, able to respond to technological change, evolving customer needs and the demands of a fast-changing global environment. Insurance Skillnet will help strengthen career pathways, support long-term workforce development and ensure the sector continues to attract and develop the talented people it needs for the future”
Aidan Flynn, Chair Insurance Skillnet Steering group, said, “we are delighted to welcome the launch of Ireland’s dedicated Insurance Skillnet. Representing a diverse industry spanning life, general, health, and international and specialist (re)insurance and employing over 43,000 people, this initiative comes at exactly the right time. As the sector responds to rapid technological change, evolving customer expectations, and increasing competitive pressures, Insurance Skillnet will provide a vital platform for continuous learning, skills development, and future-focused talent. This will strengthen the sector’s resilience and support its continued growth in Ireland.
The future of insurance in Ireland is bright, and this Skillnet will play a key role in ensuring the sector is ready to seize the opportunities ahead, further reinforcing Ireland’s position as a leading global hub for insurance and reinsurance”.
Dave Flynn, Director of Business Networks at Skillnet Ireland, said: “The launch of Insurance Skillnet represents an important step in strengthening Ireland’s enterprise capability in a sector that is both globally significant and rapidly evolving in Ireland. As businesses respond to technological change and increasing complexity, access to flexible upskilling solutions is critical. Through Insurance Skillnet, we are supporting companies to build the skills, leadership and expertise needed to remain competitive, while also ensuring the sector continues to attract and develop talent for the future.”
The new network will support the development of clear career pathways within the sector, helping to attract new talent while supporting the ongoing professional development of those already working in the industry.
