Skillnet Ireland is proud to be a core partner in a major new European education initiative - SUSA (Sustainable Healthcare with Digital Health Data Competence).

Launched in january 2025, SUSA is a €12.4m EU-funded project under the Digital Europe Programme, designed to equip healthcare professionals with the advanced digital skills needed to drive the transformation of healthcare across Europe. Through innovative learning pathways, SUSA will help future-proof the healthcare workforce and accelerate the responsible use of health data in clinical, research, and policy settings.

The SUSA consortium brings together 21 partners from nine EU countries, including universities, research institutes, SMEs, hospitals, and health networks. Together, they are building a collaborative, interdisciplinary education model that delivers real impact - for learners, for healthcare providers, and for European society.

Addressing a Strategic Digital Skills Gap

Digital transformation is rapidly reshaping healthcare delivery across Europe. However, the sector continues to face significant challenges due to a shortage of professionals equipped with the necessary digital expertise. SUSA addresses this challenge head-on by embedding cutting-edge digital skills training into 20 bachelor's and 26 master's programmes, and by offering 16 standalone modules for lifelong learning.

The programme will equip over 6,500 students and 660 working professionals across nine European countries with competencies in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, Internet of Things (IoT), and health data analytics. These skills are essential to unlockthe full potential of the European Health Data Space and to support a more sustainable, interoperable healthcare ecosystem.

Our Contribution

Skillnet Ireland will support industry engagement, ecosystem involvement, and dissemination of project results, ensuring strong alignment with the national skills agenda and industry needs.
